4 WAYS TO DETOX YOUR SKIN FOR A VIBRANT GLOW + NATURAL PRODUCTS I LOVE 47673

Hey there health seeker,

When I start seeing a new client, generally the first thing I help them do is a proper cleanse. Why? Because in order for us to begin to heal, we need to stop ingesting toxins, through what we eat, put on our body and what we breathe in. Cleansing help to give our organs a reboot. While it's true that our bodies are naturally designed to detoxify, the problem is that we are living in an increasingly toxic world!

If you start to think about it, toxins literally come from all aspects of our lives. Our food, water, air, cleaning supplies, skincare, and even our clothes and furniture have all come into contact with toxic chemicals. And these are just the unintentional everyday sources. If we choose to have a few too many drinks, the occasional cigarette, or too much stress in our lives, the toxic burden multiplies. It's a scary thought isn't it. The fact is, we can't control all sources of toxins that affect us, but we can start to be more mindful of what we can control. What we choose to put into our bodies, and on our bodies, will either lead us toward health or toward illness. Toxic overload leads to symptoms such as acne, fatigue, weight gain and depression.

So what's the answer? Doing a proper whole food cleanse and adding lots of detoxifying foods into our diet throughout the year is essential. We also need to support our detox organs, like the liver, lungs and skin so that they don't become overburdened and function optimally. This is how we prevent illness and feel positively vibrant and energized.

I want to share with you four ways you can help support your biggest detox organ - your skin. Helping the skin to eliminate toxic waste is vital to increased energy, healthy balanced weight loss, and of course, beautiful glowing skin!

How to Detox through the Skin:

1. Dry skin brushing

Dry skin brushing stimulates the lymphatic system and circulation. This improves lymphatic drainage, boosts immunity and removes dead skin cells. The only tool needed is a soft, dry, skin brush, preferably with natural bristles.

Follow these simple steps to dry skin brush daily:

1. Stand in the shower with the water off. 2. Starting at your feet, start brushing in small circles towards your heart. Apply very light pressure, avoiding broken skin, skin rashes, or areas where the skin is thin, such as the face or inner thighs. 3. After you've finished both legs, move on to your arms. Brush from your fingertips, again towards your heart. 4. Reach around and brush from your back towards your stomach. 5. When you are finished, begin showering.

2. Steams and Saunas

Steams and saunas are also good for providing warmth and supporting detoxification. This is best done at least 2x per week during a cleanse. Infrared sauna can be done one to three times a week. Not to be confused with a regular dry sauna, an infrared sauna penetrates more than 1.5 inches into the body. It helps immensely with estrogen and heavy metal detoxification, circulation, fat loss, skin health, and improved immune response. While the mechanism is not entirely understood, a 20 – 40 minute session can also boost your mood and calm your nervous system.
3. Detox Bath

Detox bath is a great alternative if you don’t have access to saunas. A warm bath with 1-2 cups of Epsom salts is beneficial for releasing stress and helps with inflammatory conditions such as eczema and psoriasis. Adding a cup of apple cider vinegar will further help to detox and balance the pH of skin. Also beneficial for acne and dry skin, including dandruff. Applying a clay mask on the body and face for 15-30 minutes before your bath will help to pull out toxins and impurities.
4. Detoxifying Skincare
Firstly, give your skin care a makeover and ditch the toxic chemicals, which get absorbed through your pores and get into your bloodstream. You can take it a bit further and get a little dirty in the bathroom, it will do wonders for clear beautiful skin! Some of the most detoxifying ingredients you can use on your skin are clay and mud. So find your inner child and go play in the bathroom:) Clay has strong drawing powers to help pull toxic debris out through the pores of the skin. Applied on the skin, clay can also provide heat to stimulate circulation for rheumatism treatment and some clay varieties have been show to have antibacterial properties as well. For thousands of years, people all over the world have believed in the healing powers of mud. The magic of mud is in the minerals -- including sodium, magnesium and potassium -- which all help to purify the skin. Using mud and clay based products as a cleanser or mask can help relieve the symptoms of many conditions such as psoriasis, acne and rosacea.

Two super detoxifying and chemical free skincare products I have been loving lately are both clay based. Lavender and Clay Artisanal Soap by Jordan River Soapworks and Herbal Clay Cleanser from Anointment Natural Skincare.

The clay cleanser is super cool. You add a bit into your palm, mix with water and use is just like a cleanser. It's made of organic oats, white clay and flax seed powder with herbal botanicals that gently cleanse skin and help to pull out toxins. White clay, or kaolin, has many benefits including antibacterial and detoxification properties. This type of clay can be used on a daily basis to help clean the skin and remove toxins and dirt from the pores. You can even use it as a mask to get rid of those bumps and any buildup, without drying out your skin.

The soap is made of handcrafted with glacial marine clay from British Columbia, known for stimulating the skin’s circulation and improving the appearance of fine lines. The lavender essential oil helps to calm the skin, while coconut oil and clay get rid of any impurities that can lead to acne. LOVE it, use it daily for clear skin!
