imdelgado.blogspot.com - I feel like I'm starting this hair journey thing all over again. I say this because for the bulk of the year, I have severely neglected my hair. I skipped deep conditioning sessions, I didn't moisturize as I should. Overall, I just couldn't be bothered with this hair journey thing. But once I made the decision to have my hair analyzed, I also chose to recommit myself to the pursuit of healthy hair.
So I took the liberty to actually create a set of vows and promises to my hair as we embark on our new journey together.
***clears throat***
"For years you have stood by me. As you grew, I grew. We fulfilled each other's needs. But things changed when I began to drift away from you. My actions made hurt you. Yet despite it all, you were still here, with me, waiting for the day when I would return to the person I once was.
Now I'm ready. I will now give you the time, attention, and love you so crave. I will nourish you and keep you healthy. I'll shower you with attention. We will thrive together."
Based on the conversation with the Komaza consultant, I will need to get back to the basics. I'll start by doing consistent monthly protein treatments every few weeks using my Babyface Pure Protein. This will help repair some of the cuticle lifting. I also was told that my hair would benefit greatly from a strengthening leave in conditioner. Which I can use on wash days and even periodically throughout the week. Because it's a water based product, my hair will be getting a mix of moisture and protein all at once. I purchased a leave-in on Komaza's site. Along with that I picked up a bottle of It's a 10 with Keratin (which my straight hair loves!). Oh yeah, let's not forget Biolage Cera Repair which is a strengthening leave in that utilizes the power of ceramides. I think I'll pick up a couple other brands to experiment with until I find the perfect leave-in strengthening moisturizer.
What's critical about my commitment is that I remain consistent. Being inconsistent is what got me here in the first place. The sheer amount of time it takes for me to wash, deep condition and roller set my hair was the root cause. If I have any weekend activities planned, I'm pretty much screwed. But there are ways to work around it. I was just too lazy to make everything work. I had the mentality of "it's only one way or another." Either I do my hair or I participate in weekend activities. Now I'll
The good news is that my hair, according to the consultant, is thick and strong. She really emphasized the word thick and even gave me the dimensional size of my strands. I've got to use that to my advantage somehow. One thing I will do, for sure, is not too long in between trims. I'll try to trim at least twice a year if not more. After taking off a couple of inches, I'm back to just below bra-strap length which is a good place to start again. I'm actually excited to get back on the saddle. I love forward to the journey ahead.
